"Lens flare" is an effect that most people recognize, even if they don't know the name of it. It's easy to create, by filming against the sun.

You might have to do some practice runs first, getting the angle of the camera just right. But hang in there, because you'll be rewarded with a hazy dimension to your shot. But remember, it should also add something to the story! 

If you didn't manage to capture the flare you wanted, or simply don't want to bother with organic lens flare. You can actually add the effect when you're editing. Most editing programs have a basic lens flare effect option.
